Whether you have a GX device or not, the dongle can be seamlessly integrated into your system. In systems with a GX device and another source of temperature and voltage data, such as a CANbus battery, the CCGX data will take precedence over the dongle's information. However, the dongle will still provide live-information through its VictronConnect interface and can perform firmware updates without an internet connection.

If your system does not have a GX device, the Smart Battery Sense dongle becomes the primary source of voltage and temperature data. Other connected devices can utilize this information for voltage compensation. In systems with a Multiplus-II, dongle, and GX device but no other source of temperature and voltage, data from the dongle will also be used.

The VE.Bus Smart dongle is equipped with two methods for battery temperature sensing. The default method utilizes the dongle's on-board temperature sensor, which senses the battery temperature directly from the battery casing when the dongle is mounted onto it using the adhesive attachment. The second method, which provides improved battery temperature sensing, involves using an optional battery-terminal mounted sensor. When connected, this sensor overrides the default sensor, and the dongle utilizes this method instead.
